We had a week in paradise! The luxury honeymoon tent was exactly as described.
We felt right at home and loved that it was so private and quiet.
We were so spoilt to have Chef Francis prepare 3 meals a day and took care of clean up so that we could really relax.
Aussie Mike is a good host and entertaining storyteller. Taxi driver Lawrence provided safe and reliable transport.

What a gorgeous place. If you’re an animal lover, this is the best place to be in. Monkeys everywhere, on the veranda, in the garden, by the pool! Gorgeous birds. Starfish island nearby. Adequate snorkeling.
I was initially worried because the Honeymoon Tent seemed like a better choice online, but to us, Ocean View villa has the most to offer of the properties on the compound! Lovely as a couple or for a group you know intimately (the rooms are quite porous if sharing the home).Mike was incredibly helpful and flexible, with an incredible life story. Martin our chef was warm and went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. Would definitely come back again. PS would recommend ordering the shopping ahead of time, can be a bit hectic to do it on the night of your arrival.
We had a wonderful stay. The host offered great communication throughout, and the property is set in beautiful, peaceful surroundings.
The on-site staff were fantastic and always ready to help with anything needed.
The place feels very private and relaxing. Just note that it’s about a 30–40 minute drive to Diani Beach, so it’s worth planning your schedule with that in mind.
There is no place in the world like this 25 acre plot on the Indian Ocean.
There is no feeling more freeing than emerging from the lush tropical forest to find yourself perched atop coral cliffs staring into infinity.
Mike and Sabine spent the better part of the last 50 years working to create this dream—and though we were only there for 5 nights, it might have been the best 5 nights of our life.

Mike’s place in Tiwi is truly magical. The accommodation is comfortable and thoughtfully designed.
So many highlights: Waking up in the forest to an array of bird and animal calls, spotting the Colobus monkey outside the tent, galagos playing in the trees at night, a stunning variety of tropical fish in the rock pools, the breathtaking coastline, enjoying the sunset from the cliff top pool.
Mike is an incredibly gracious host and we enjoyed a fantastic multi-course lunch with him during our stay and thoroughly enjoyed hearing stories of his well-lived and adventure-filled life.
Our transfers and food arrangements were well coordinated thanks to Mike.
Francis, our chef, was helpful and ever attentive and the most lovely, friendly, gentle soul.
We enjoyed many delicious fresh seafood meals which he prepared for us.
The tent provided a serene setting to slow down and just enjoy the peace and beauty that Tiwi has to offer.

This is a real gem of a place. The actual setting is even better than the photos.
Everything is warm, comfortable, beautiful, and intertwined with nature.
The pool by the ocean has cool refreshing water, the perfect antidote to a day of beachcombing and walking under the sun.
I watched the sunrise each morning from the pool and the experience was breathtaking.
The ocean is amazing, filled with stunning tidepools when the tide is out. Aussie Mike is the supreme host: friendly, informative, and inviting.
He offered wine by the pool on many evenings, along with stimulating conversation, and always made us feel at home.
You can not find a more wonderful place to visit.

Starfish Island is well worth a walk and even though we had a bit of rain it was perfectly relaxing.
Communication was easy, quick over Airbnb and interesting and welcoming in real life.
Keep in mind: a flashlight and good insect repellant will come in handy, if only to see the animals around the tent at night!

This place was a little slice of paradise, to say the least. You can see the love, detail, and thought that went into building this place; every inch had meaning, from the tree-trunk bench overlooking the ocean to the famous clifftop pool. There is nothing to fault about this place!
The pictures do not do it justice, which leaves pockets of surprises to discover around the compound—from private beaches tucked away to sunset dinners at the clifftop.
The chef was the cherry on top! I’d also recommend supporting the local economy by taking the Starfish Village and Africa Pool trips.

Please note that the villa is only rented as a complete unit. It has accommodation for up to 10 ( Depending on configuration Adults, Singles, Couples, Children ) with an additional two or three in an adjoining luxury tent plus another 10 in an adjacent villa on the same compound. Click here to see tent and here to see Waterside villa. Situated within a two and a half meter security wall on 25 acres of the finest land on the south coast of Kenya. Ocean villa comprises four large bedrooms with a total sleeping capacity of 8-10 persons. The master bedroom even has its own private Jacuzzi . All bedrooms are en-suite. All four are situated around a beautiful designer swimming pool. The furniture is from the famous Funzi Furniture workshops in Tiwi and the house and the interiors have been designed personally by Sabine Funk of Funzi Designs. The property has an informal restaurant/bar. The private self catering restaurant is only available to clients and their guests. It straddles two 350,000 litre fresh water lakes right on the sea. Both lakes are full of Tilapia. There are secluded beaches to the immediate right and left of the cliff top. Private stabling for four horses are incorporated into the overall design. There is a Helipad on the property. The entire plot is heavily forested and contains much birdlife and wildlife in residence. There are no dogs and no cats allowed on the grounds. Absolute luxury, absolute security, absolute privacy.
Ocean Villa is situated in Tiwi on a cliff top right on the Indian Ocean just 17 kilometers south of Mombasa in Kenya, and three kilometers off the main Kenya/Tanzania road. There are air links from the local Ukunda airstrip to all other major parks in Kenya. Mainly to the famed Maasai Mara, a mere one and a half hour flight. In addition, the marine parks of Shimoni and Kisite are less than half an hour away by car. Tanzania is only a one hour drive down a sealed bitumen road. Mombasa is serviced by Moi International airport and the town itself has just recently achieved city status. Almost anything can be bought or made in this thriving, historically important old Swahili town. Mombasa has a rail link to Nairobi, Uganda and soon to southern Sudan.
Also please let us know if you will be requiring airport transfers or shopping and we will arrange for you. Mombasa Airport4,000/- for normal 4 seater car. Diani Airport 1,500/- for normal 4 seater car. Mombasa SGR station 4,500/- for normal 4 seater car.
A private taxi to Diani is 1,500/- for normal 4 seater car. Bigger cars are available. Ask for quote. 15 minutes drive to all the hustle and bustle of Diani Beach where you can get anything you want. Banks, supermarkets, golf course, and many Bars and Restaurants. Sabine or myself often go to Diani and if we are going and have room you are welcome to tag along. No charge.
The kitchen at Ocean Villa is fully equipped and your own private chef charges €15 per day for serving you all three meals. Other household staff are included in the price. We are self catering. There is a large supermarket only 15 minutes away. Here you can buy almost anything you would expect to find in any well stocked European style supermarket. Fresh fruit and vegetables and fish is delivered daily to the door if required. Chef can do pretty much what you want. We can order prawns, crabs, calamari or fish, lobster as well but not always available.
We have a third party shopping service that can do all your shopping and delivers to the house. This is great if you are arriving by air at odd times or just wish to have it all done for you. They charge $30 for the service. You can pay for all when you arrive. If you wish to use it just check our Shopping List. Pilli Pipa Dhow Safari operates a snorkelling and diving dhow safari to Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park on the South Coast. They are dedicated conservationists, and are highly regarded for quality of service and safety. Extremely high chances of spotting dolphins. You can choose to dive with them or just go snorkelling. Their equipment is top quality and comprehensive. All levels of experience. A lunch of mangrove crab and freshly caught fish is served with drinks in their own private garden on Wasini Island. Their prices include pick up and return to your villa. Eco Tourism at it’s best. Highly recommended. Shimba Hills Day Excursuion, You will be picked from your coast hotel at around 6.00 am and drive to Shimba Hills, a distance of 35 kms from Diani. Shimba Hills is a tropical rain forest which covers an area of 202 km2. Physical attractions include casuarinas forests, Marere Dam, Sheldrick Waterfalls. The landscape is grassland. Shimba Hills offer breathtaking views of the Great Rift Valley and its surroundings. Animals seen in this area include elephants, buffalos, giraffes, impalas, monkeys, heartbeasts, rare leopards, attractive sable antelopes, roan antelopes and many different species of birds. After your game drive, you will enjoy lunch at Shimba Hills Lodge, where you have good chances to see animals at the water hole. After lunch, another game drive and drive back to the villa arriving in the late afternoon. Visas should be obtained online prior to arrival in Kenya. However at this present time 27th September 2019 they could still be obtained on arrival. Please be aware they ony take cash for this service.
Sabine and I have been in Kenya for a sum total of over 80 years and we always take our Safari to Satao Camp in Tsavo. The camp is only 4 hours drive from our home. 15k South from Mombasa on the road to Diani there is the Kwale Junction.
Another 2 k along the same road is the turn off to Hillpark Hotel on the left.
Go down this dirt road for 2.2k and you will come to a T Junction.
Turn right and our road is 800 meters further on at the end of the walls.
Turn left and 800 meters down to the beach you will come to our gate at the bottom of the hill. (Last 50 meters bad road)
Sound your horn and the Askari will open the gate and direct you to your accommodation.

LOCATION
Ocean Villa is located in Tiwi Beach, on Kenya’s South Coast in Kwale County, just north of Diani Beach. It sits within the secluded Keringet Estate, in a private, lush coastal setting overlooking the Indian Ocean. The villa is perched on a clifftop above the beach, with a short walk down to the sandy shoreline.
It offers the best of Tiwi’s location: a peaceful, uncrowded stretch of white-sand beach and turquoise ocean, while still being only around 15–20 minutes from Diani, where guests can find restaurants, shops, supermarkets and other amenities.
